South Korean police have arrested fifteen mobile company employees and brokers for selling the personal information of an estimated six million people for a total of W360 million ($314,335). Seven of the suspects allegedly sold information--including names, mobile phone numbers, identification numbers, e-mail addresses, and mobile phone types--on 920,000 customers to a telemarketing firm which solicited customers to switch mobile service providers. One information broker gathered personal details on the Internet to sell to adult content providers, mobile companies, and e-commerce sites. Police are investigating how the suspects obtained the information they sold.
