Další chytré rhyba?ení - sociální inženýrství s VISA kartami v Británii
24.11.2004Fraudsters in Great Britain have begun tricking people out of their credit card data over the phone. The scammers call people on the phone and pretend to be representatives of Visa checking into a suspicious transaction. The fraudsters do not ask for credit card numbers, but only the CVV (Card Verification Value) number to verify that card holders still have their credit cards. In reality, the scammers already have the credit card number, but need the CVV to make fraudulent purchases. As a side effect, when card holders see suspicious activity on their next account statement, they mistakenly assume their credit card company has already dealt with the matter. This causes a delay in filing a real report of suspicious transaction, making it less likely that a fraud report will be successful. Credit card companies will never ask a customer for information about their credit cards, since they already have the information on file.
