This Special Publication provides security guidelines for achieving the desired security strengths of several cryptographic applications that employ the approved cryptographic hash functions specified in FIPS 180-4. The current version of this document was published in February 2009. This revision includes the security properties for SHA-512/224 and SHA-512/256, provides additional security information about HMAC and revises the discussions on hash-based Key Derivation Functions.
