An understanding of computer security will help you use your computer in a safe and efficient manner and help protect you from viruses, spam and computer crime. Acquiring an understanding of computer security also makes you a good citizen by stopping your computer spreading these problems to other people and by increasing the cost of crime. Although this document looks mainly at how you can protect yourself, by doing so you will be helping other people too. This document concentrates on the needs of home users and small businesses. Large organisations may have different priorities.
